As we experience the finals days of 2023, I wanted to share with you what my team and I have been up to since October.
On October 13th, I traveled to Washington, D.C. to attend the graduation ceremony of the 2023 Legislative Energy Horizon Institute (LEHI). LEHI was a great learning opportunity for myself, and I am glad I was given the opportunity to learn.
Towards the end of October, myself and Rep. Cramer toured the Outdoor School located Trickle Creek Camp. Outdoor School is so important for our students who are given a firsthand experience of our environment. Thank you to the camp administrators who helped set this up and the guides who took the time to show us around.
On November 6 - 8, legislators were back in Salem for another round of Legislative Days. We continued to lay the groundwork for the 2024 short session (which is right around the corner!) and had important conversations. We were also updated on programs like Paid Leave Oregon and the obstacles it faces. I hope we can turn those conversations to action and make progress on critical issues.
On November 10, I attended the Umpqua Community College Foundation Legacy Ball. The event highlighted the effort of dedicated community partners to ensuring access to affordable and high-quality education for people in southern Oregon and elswhere.
Joined by Congresswoman Val Hoyle, Douglas County Commissioners Tim Freeman and Chris Boice, and Senator Brock Smith, we partook in Douglas County's annual Veterans Day parade, highlighting our strong commitment to veterans and their families.
At the start of December, I attended the Mercy Foundation's Festival of Trees alongside much of our southern Oregon legislators. Mercy Foundation has done great work in our community and always bring some holiday cheer!
As we reflect on the events of 2023, it makes me excited for 2024.
