Friends and Neighbors,

Pic

Here we are, the holiday season is upon us, before the rush sets in, give yourself time to relax, breathe, and yes, eat good food. This time of year provides opportunity for us to reflect on the positive gifts in our lives that keep us going. No matter how this newsletter makes it into your email box, I appreciate that you are staying engaged and providing feedback on the information we share with you every week. I certainly do not do this work alone. We have an amazing Senate District 15 Team. I’m ever-so grateful for Nickole Vargas and Maria Gomez. Their passion for service, their professionalism in the work they do, and the heart for community that they convey is very special.

I’m currently at home recovering from knee replacement surgery. I am three weeks, post-surgery and continuing to heal. I am grateful for my health and modern-day medicine. I could not do it without the skilled healthcare professionals that provided my new bionic parts and the care they gave and continue to do so. I am so very grateful for my family, friends and Team SD15 that have helped me in my recovery and the support they give me every day that allows me to serve the people of this district to the best of my ability. When we reflect on our blessings, sometimes it’s the big things we focus on, but other times it’s just the little things that come before us that we can be grateful for in the moment. Enjoy the little moments and remember to take care of yourself and each other.

Senate District 15 lies on Kalapuya land. The Atfalati were the northernmost band of the Kalapuya that lived along the Tualatin River in present day Washington County. Many of the Atfalati descendants are members of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon today. The Indigenous Peoples of this land experienced a painful history of colonial violence, sickness and removal from their land. The Atfalati are the foundation of Oregon's past and we must honor them well into our future.
