Representative Virgle Osborne

Friends,

With the legislative session ending nearly four months ago, my team and I have kept ourselves busy, attending several events, touring many locations, and speaking to many throughout Douglas County. Here are a few of the highlights:

Meeting With State and Local Fire Officials

The recent fire season concerned me as well as countless others. With increasing wildfires and the ongoing threat to our communities, I met with state and local fire officials to understand their plan of action, the challenges they face, and resource allocation. The dedication from the men and women who protect our homes, environment, and community is truly commendable. I will continue to advocate for increased support for our fire personnel and improved fire prevention measures including controlled burns and proper forest management.

Tour of the Winchester Dam

I had an opportunity to tour the Winchester Dam and gain a deeper understanding of its situation. I want to thank the staff who took time out of their day to walk us through the dam.

Information Session about the Private Forest Accord

Hosting an information session on the new Private Forest Accord was a learning experience for me and so many others. It was great to see it well attended with community members and stakeholders who asked thoughtful questions. I want to thank the officials from the Oregon Department of Forestry who coordinated with my office as well as the administrators and Commissioners from Douglas County who helped set this up. I am committed to facilitating productive discussions between stakeholders and government agencies.

Tour of the Wolf Creek Job Corps Facility

Our young people are the future of our community. Investing in their education and training is essential. It was a privilege to tour the Wolf Creek Job Corps Facility where I witnessed firsthand the opportunities it provides to so many. The dedication of the staff is inspiring. As we work to strengthen our workforce and provide more pathways to success for our young adults, I will continue to support initiatives that empower the next generation.

Final Thoughts

These were just a few of the things I have been up to since the 2023 session came to a close. And with short session five months away there will be more events, tours, and discussions I will be attending until then. I want to thank you for your continued support and engagement. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to my office.

Sincerely,

Virgle Osborne
