Interim Newsletter: September

Another month has passed in the interim, and while the Capitol remains empty, there is still much work to be done behind the scenes! My work has consisted of updating our office records, looping in constituents with state agencies, sending mail, scheduling meetings, hearing your concerns, and of course, sending out this newsletter.

Rep. Cate is still busy working on the farm and playing catch up on other projects after being away for six months. While we are in the interim and there is less legislative work, she is still navigating through constituent concerns, working with stakeholders, and sending out plenty of stationary! As summer draws to a close, there will be a change of pace coming as we return to Salem at the end of the month for "Legislative Days", which will help gear us up for the 2024 Short Session.

You may have received an end of session flyer in your mailbox over the summer, but for those who didn't receive it, I wanted to share it below. Rep. Cate's flyer highlights the good, the bad, and the ugly that came out of the 2023 Legislative Session. Have a look inside with this link!

As always, continue reading this newsletter to find a list of great community events occurring over the next month!

This week's district spotlight honors all of the students returning back to school for the 2023-2024 school year! Our office always likes to honor students any chance we get, and this year will be no exception. We want to wish the best of luck to them academically, and also in their extracurriculars as sports and clubs begin to restart!

Oregon's Kid Governor Campaign Kicks Off

Do you know of any 5th graders with an interest in government or change-making? The Secretary of State's office is inviting all Oregon 5th grade students and their teachers to participate in the campaign and election of the 2024 Oregon Kid Governor!

This statewide civics program offers each elementary school in Oregon the opportunity to enter one student candidate into a statewide election that other 5th graders vote in. Classes can nominate a classmate to run for office, vote in the election or both. Toolkits of in-class lessons guide teachers and students through the program to learn about civics, including how to vote, the Oregon Legislature, The Oregon Executive Branch, and the Oregon Supreme Court. The program is free and provides teachers with classroom toolkits to help guide their students through the curriculum.

For more information or to register and access the lesson plans visit or.kidgovernor.org.
