Representative Anna Scharf

Dear Friends,

Please review the below action alert - especially as our children get ready to begin the school year next week.

I hope everyone has a great upcoming Labor Day weekend and you're in an area clear of the smoke from the many wildfires. I am very thankful for our first responders and firefighters as they continue to work tirelessly to stop the fires throughout our state.

As always, please contact my office with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

1

Anna Scharf
State Representative - HD 23

ODE is requesting community participation by completing the 2023 Health Education Standards survey. All responses are anonymous and subject to public record. The survey window is from Wednesday, August 9 - September 1, 2023.  There are many controversial areas to the proposed standards and this is your chance to weigh in on how you feel. The standards address many areas from wellness & health, safety & first aid, substance use and abuse, and food, nutrition & exercise.  However, the standards have some controversial sections as well. They include: Healthy Relationships and Violence Prevention (HRVP), Growth and Development (GD), and Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH). Click here to read just a few of the standards in each of those sections by grade. I highly encourage each of you to review the entire standard and provide feedback to ODE by the Sept. 1 deadline. Today, Oregon's Economic and Revenue Quarterly Forecast was released. The forecast revealed Oregon's economy is stabilizing and a recession has been removed from baseline assumptions. Our state, now more than ever, needs to be fiscally responsible, stop implementing new taxes, and discontinue the Corporate Activities Tax. We need to prioritize housing opportunities and investing in our law enforcement to stop the drug crisis across Oregon.

I have been getting a lot of questions and concerns in the last week about the possibility of mask mandates returning.

While I have not heard of anything about this happening on the state level, I cannot foresee any circumstance where I would support mandatory masking.

We know the damage they did to socialization among young children and Oregonians have been through this before. They understand the risks and should be able to make informed choices about their health. Government overstepped before, and it should not do it again
