IMPORTANT FIRE NEWS

While Oregon is doing better, even down to 24 Active Fires (total 68,000 acres lost to date) – the Curry Flat Fire is over 60% contained and no fires currently in Douglas or Coos Counties.
Many of Our Oregon Fire Authorities are however turning prompt attention to the California-Oregon border – sending teams from as far away as Wallowa County to assist. Many Lighting Fires hit Northern Cal on Tuesday with fuels and conditions very unfavorable to ‘putting those out’. Highway 199 was quickly closed and will likely remain so for a considerable time.

Overnight southwest Oregon received light precipitation along with approximately 30 cloud to ground lightning strikes across the region. To our south, multiple fires grew rapidly and challenged resources namely on the Smith River National Recreation Area due to over 150 Lightning Strikes on Tuesday night.

Southwest Incident Management Team 3 will inbrief at 1:00 p.m. today with Northern Rockies (NR) Team 2 with a transition of command tomorrow at 0600. The Flat Fire remains in the same footprint with overall growth of roughly 150 acres over the tenure of NR Team 2.

Firefighters from Wild Rivers Ranger District responded to a new start (the Mile Fire) on the Illinois River Road near 6-mile campground. The fire was halted at 1/10 of an acre with an aggressive response. The cause of this fire is under investigation.

Crews from Siskiyou Mountains Ranger District responded to aid the Klamath National Forest (KNF) on a new start within a mile of the forest border. The Red fire was called in by a LAT (large air tanker) at approximately three acres. When crews arrived, it was four acres and displayed moderate fire behavior. Resources from the KNF and Rogue River Siskiyou National Forest (RRSNF) were able to hold the fire at four acres with a few of our resources remaining on scene overnight. Please Note: These photos are excellent visuals, however, were taken almost two days ago.
