Every June, Pride Month commemorates the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York and celebrates the LGBTQ community and the fight for equal rights. It also highlights the ongoing need to address the prejudice and discrimination that the LGBTQ community faces.

This session, we're shining a spotlight on non-profit organizations in HD 30. This week, we’ve chosen the Hillsboro Schools Foundation. As a board member since 2015, and president from 2019 – 2022, I know first-hand how instrumental HSF is in cultivating community engagement and securing funding to inspire excellence in Hillsboro's schools.
HSF has recently embarked on its next major initiative – introducing elementary school students to various occupations through career exploration kits. These kits contain career and education specific books, materials, and activities designed around the exploration of twelve different career learning areas. These include agriculture, construction, healthcare, public service, and more. As students progress through elementary school, the kits become increasingly more detailed and in-depth so that, by sixth grade, students will have been introduced to over 130 different potential industry fields within these career learning areas.
For more information about this incredible initiative and the work the Hillsboro Schools Foundation does, visit their website HERE.
