Dear Friends and Neighbors,
We have 41 days left in the legislative session and decisions are being made to pass state agency budgets in advance of the June Revenue Forecast. Until the forecast is released, we don’t know what the numbers will look like in terms of balancing Oregon’s 2023-2025 biennial budget.
Given the economic uncertainty and continued high inflation that is stretching Oregonian’s budgets to the brink, I have exercised an abundance of caution in making budget decisions before the forecast is known. Doing so, I have noted my objections to moving high dollar budget bills out of the Joint Ways and Means Subcommittee on Public Safety and the Full Ways and Means Committee for which I am a member.
Oregonian’s hard-earned tax dollars pay for state services and should be evaluated thoroughly in the decisions that impact our state’s fiscal future. It is irresponsible to commit to investments before knowing where the budget numbers are projected to fall.
Please join me by tuning in to the House and Senate Finance and Revenue Joint Committee meeting Tomorrow, May 17th at 8:00 am to hear the Oregon Office of Economic Analysis present the June Revenue Forecast here. This forecast sets the stage that will allow us to finalize the budget before the session’s end.
Thank you for keeping in touch and staying tuned in!
Sincerely,
Rick Lewis State Representative House District 18 Oregon’s Christmas Tree District
