Friends,
This week several bills of concern were heard in committees. Here are the ones I want to put on your radar:
SB 603 - This bill would provide $1,000 to "individuals who are experiencing homelessness, are at risk of homelessness, are severely rent burdened or earn at or below 60 percent of area median income." This is an inappropriate course of action to help Oregonians. With little to no oversight on how these funds are spent, the bill's goal of transitioning people out of homelessness and ensuring permanent housing is simply futile.
HB 3229 - This bill would increase permitting cost fees by 80%, taking millions of dollars away from businesses. Should it pass, this bill will certainly lead to a loss in jobs.
HB 3152 - This bill is a backdoor natural gas appliance ban, removing critical incentives for Oregonians to transition and upgrade to more efficient and cost-saving appliances.
Additional bill of concern: SB 579 would allow convicted felons to vote while incarcerated. This bill has been scheduled for a work session on March 9.
Thank you,
Representative Virgle Osborne House District 2
