Dear Friends and Neighbors,
I hope you enjoyed your week. January was a busy month in Salem. The legislative session is underway and there are many exciting things happening. I’ve included some updates below.
-
House Committee on Higher Education: we received important information regarding textbook affordability for students in higher education and an update on workforce development for Future Ready Oregon.
-
House Committee on Business and Labor: we discussed updating and streamlining procurement policies for state agencies in order to save taxpayer dollars. We reviewed a bill to establish a no-interest loan program for smaller farms implementing our new farmworker overtime laws. Additionally, we discussed a proposal to provide unpaid time off for workers who are serving on appointed boards or commissions.
-
Joint Committee on Semiconductors: we discussed the present need for industrial land and were briefed on semiconductor supply chain matters.
-
Joint Commitee on Ways and Means Subcommittee on Transportation and Economic Development: we discussed funding transportation projects and received budgeting briefings from the Department of Justice as well as the Department of Administrative Services.

I met with a group of Hillsboro-area residents from Oregon Recovers, a statewide coalition of people in recovery, to discuss Oregon’s addiction crisis. I am so grateful for the information and the stories they shared. I am committed to fighting for ongoing and sustainable funding for behavioral health as well as addiction services.
