House District 30 Newsletter - January 13, 2023

Representative Sosa

JANUARY NEWSLETTER

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I hope you had a fantastic holiday season! I am honored to return as the state representative for District 30 and I am eagerly awaiting the 2023 legislative session's kickoff next week.

Swearing in Ceremony

framed

On Monday, I took the oath once again as your state representative. This swearing-in ceremony was historic.  It entailed the return of 39 state representatives and the election of 21 new representatives – one of the largest incoming classes ever. The Oregon Legislature is also the most diverse in history with 19 lawmakers who are people of color. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the challenges facing our state.

Committee Assignments

When the legislative session starts next week, I’ll be serving on the following committees:

I am excited to get to work on issues that impact our working families, students, small businesses, and technology sector.

Habitat for Humanity's Ground-Breaking Celebration at Century Commons

hh

I had a wonderful time attending Habitat for Humanity's ground-breaking celebration for Century Commons in Hillsboro. These 18 brand-new homes are to be sold to families and individuals with affordable mortgages who would otherwise be priced out of homeownership due to ever-rising interest rates and housing costs. American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding, land donated by the City of Hillsboro, and financing through Oregon Housing + Community Services made pre-development at this site possible.

As a child who had to move frequently because of rising rents, I know how important it is for families to have the stability and financial predictability of homeownership. I'm very grateful to have been invited to celebrate this partnership alongside other community leaders committed to championing economic empowerment and access to affordable housing for all.

Constituent Coffee Reminder

Don't forget! This Saturday, my staff and I will be hosting our monthly constituent coffee. We'll be at Insomnia Coffee - Baseline on Saturday 1/14 from 9am - 10:30am.  The address is 5389 E Main St, Hillsboro, OR 97123. With Organizational Days behind us, I look forward to discussing what I've learned so far and meeting community members interested in having conversations about what matters most to them in the upcoming session.

I hope you will stop by, say hello, and join me for a cup of coffee!

As a reminder, my office moved after the last session and is now located on the second floor of the House wing (H-280) for the 2023 legislative session.  Please stop in.

You are always welcome to contact my office with any questions or feedback. You can do so via email at Rep.NathanSosa@Oregonlegislature.gov or by phone at (503) 986-1430. I look forward to hearing from you!

Take care!
