Friends and neighbors,
I have officially been sworn in as the Representative for House District 44 to serve in the 82nd Legislative Assembly. It is an honor to join the largest and most diverse BIPOC caucus that our state legislature has seen thus far. I look forward to working with my fellow members on addressing the needs of our districts.
I would like to share a few highlights from the Opening Day Celebration.
I have a new desk on the House Floor. This was the same desk that Joanne Hardesty sat at in 2001.
Speaker Rayfield gave every member a personalized hard hat as a gift for the session. As you may know, the Capitol has been under construction for seismic retrofitting for several years. About half of the building is a construction zone.
I had the honor of voting to elect Representative Dan Rayfield as Speaker of the House and look forward to working with him during the session.
I am excited to work with House Majority Leader Fahey on the House Democrats' legislative agenda. We will be focusing on houselessness and affordable housing, mental and behavioral health, education, helping working families, and investing in community safety.
Representative Sosa and I were sworn in on the same day of the 2022 Legislative Session. This session, we will serve together on the House Committee on Business and Labor.
The Colors were posted by the Oregon State Police Honor Guard.
I enjoyed the White Lotus Dragon and Dance group performance of a lion dance. If you know of any performing group in North or Northeast Portland, please connect them with my office. I would love to host a group from my district to perform in future opening ceremonies for House Floor Sessions.
An Historic Opening Day
I was honored to attend the inauguration of Governor Kotek. It was a joy to witness her take the oath of office and become one of the first two lesbian governors in the country. Her inaugural address outlined some of her priorities and hopes for this coming year, while asking everyone regardless of political affiliation to come together for the success of all Oregonians.
I look forward to seeing you at my town hall with Senator Frederick, Senator Steiner, and Representative Dexter. If you would like to join virtually, click the image to join the Facebook Live event.
