Leader Breese-Iverson and Representative Reschke Secure Funding for Klamath Community College Well Drilling Curriculum

SALEM, OR – Today, the Joint Legislative Emergency Board approved $975,000 for Klamath Community College to invest in a water well drilling rig and well drilling curriculum. The current shortage of well constructors in Klamath County is anticipated to worsen with increased training requirements becoming effective on July 1, 2023.

“Klamath County has declared drought emergencies more than any other county in the state. With many existing wells running dry, there is a growing need to deepen these wells, develop new wells, and aid abandoned wells,” said Leader Breese-Iverson (R- Prineville). “This critical investment meets the growing problem with a local solution.”

In addition to well drilling curriculum, the program will include welding certification with a focus on pipe-welding, construction jobsite safety training, as well as training on laws regarding water well drilling.

“Our community has long been impacted by severe and devastating drought. I am excited about this new and advanced technology and curriculum coming to Klamath Community College,” said Representative Reschke (R-Klamath Falls).

Klamath Community College hopes to launch the program at the beginning of their Winter Term on January 13, 2023.
