Welcome Back

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Welcome back from our election-cycle hiatus. I'd also like to extend a special welcome to new friends and neighbors who will be joining Senate District 7 in January as a result of redistricting. I am deeply humbled and grateful to represent you in Salem. Please don't hesitate to reach out to my office any time, and my staff and I will be happy to help you however we can.

Additionally, I want to applaud the passage of Ballot Measure 111, which will amend the Oregon Constitution to include access to health care as a fundamental right. As one of the original sponsors of Senate Joint Resolution 12, which would go on to become Measure 111, I am thankful to the voters of Oregon for their action. The measure's approval is yet another sign that Oregonians are ready for a system that provides comprehensive, patient-centered health care that reaches all four corners of the state.

We are now approximately two months from the start of the 2023 legislative session, and my team and I are hard at work crafting and refining the policies our office will be focusing on this year, including taking the next steps toward a universal health care system. From housing to veterans affairs and beyond, we have some really exciting opportunities to build a better, stronger Oregon together next year. I am looking forward to collaborating with all of my legislative colleagues—new and returning—on this critical work.

Senator James I. Manning Jr represents North Eugene, West Eugene, and Veneta in the Oregon State Senate.
