Save the Date: Joint Town Hall on May 7th

Representative Travis Nelson

Save the Date: Joint Town Hall on May 7th

I wanted to update you before we enter what is known as the “blackout period” which starts 60 days before an election. During this period, I am not able to send out legislative newsletters. This will be my last newsletter until after this period is over on May 17, 2022. I will resume sending newsletters after this period with information about my legislative work, community events, state resources and other pertinent information.

I will be joining Representative Sanchez and Senator Frederick for a Joint Town Hall on May 7th at the Roosevelt Gym from 10am to noon.

Update on North Portland Aquatic Access

I joined Friends of Columbia Park on Monday, March 14th, for their Good Parks Series to discuss the funding allocated for a new aquatic center in North Portland.

I heard from the community about some of their hopes for the new center and concerns about the project timeline and community engagement. I hear these concerns and I am committed to working with both the community and Portland Parks and Recreation to make sure that all community voices are heard.

I have met with Portland Parks and Recreation about their engagement plan. In the next few weeks, they will start reaching out to the community for feedback on this project. Their plan includes:

  • Mailers to folks who live in a three-mile radius of Columbia Park
  • One on one interviews with stakeholders
  • A project website with up to date information
  • Event tabling
    • Including a table at the Joint Town Hall on May 7th
  • In April, they will hold an event in Columbia Park with information tables. Portland Parks and Recreation will have three tables with the following topics:
    • Gathering feedback about the new aquatic center locations, community engagement plans and applications to be on their Project Advisory Committee for this project
    • Information on the current status of the current Columbia Pool
    • Asking for community input on the $1.5 million allocation from the City on interim aquatic access

If you would like to stay up to date on the community engagement from Portland Parks and Recreation and other engagement opportunities, please visit SwimNorth.org.
