2022 Session: Get Ready, Get Set…

Right now, legislators and staff are hard at work preparing for the 2022 legislative session--the period of time in which Oregon’s legislature convenes to pass bills into law. In odd-numbered years, sessions can last for up to 160 days, but in even-numbered years like this one, the session is limited to a maximum of 35 days. This is where we get the terms “long” and “short” session.

This year, in the interest of public health amidst the current omicron surge, committee hearings and work sessions will be held virtually. Floor sessions will continue to happen at the Capitol. The chambers will be closed to the public for social distancing reasons, but the Capitol building will continue to be open to the public 8:00AM-5:00PM Monday - Friday. Please note that there will be new security measures at entrances to the Capitol to ensure the safety of all staff and visitors.

There are plenty of opportunities to get involved. Committee hearings, work sessions, and floor sessions will stream live on the Capitol's Legislative website and in viewing locations within the Capitol. Anyone, of any age, can submit written testimony or testify remotely to make an opinion heard. To learn how to track a bill, contact a legislator, and more, visit the Capitol's Frequently Asked Questions Page.

Senator James I. Manning Jr represents North Eugene, West Eugene, Santa Clara, and Junction City in the Oregon State Senate.
