Dear friends and neighbors,
These times are still trying for many of us, but the view out my home office window reflects a return to a predictable flow of life. Every day around noon I look up from a Zoom call and watch Ashland High School students making the trek between the campus and Safeway. An older couple walks their dog around my block every few hours. Weary travelers with packs and local houseless residents with carts of possessions pass by. Passing traffic ebbs and flows with the rhythm of the work day. And, past the brilliant orange maples along Siskiyou Boulevard, the hills that frame our town are starting to show flecks of green.
Even with this promise of normalcy, our community continues to face important challenges. This month, my office will host two virtual forums to provide critical information on key concerns. First, on October 20, we will focus on issues facing wildfire survivors who want to come home to the manufactured home parks that have provided so much of our housing supply. Then, on October 26, we will explore problems associated with the presence of illegal hemp and cannabis grows in our region.
The information below provides links and details for both events. Spanish and American Sign Language interpretation will be available, and each forum will be recorded for those who want to watch later.

This has been a devastating year for many who lost their homes in familiar and supportive manufactured home neighborhoods. But a year after the Almeda fire, the manufactured home park sector is starting to rebound. Old and new parks are under construction, and grants and incentives can make purchase of new manufactured homes more affordable for wildfire survivors.
This community forum will help prospective homeowners know what their options are for siting and financing a new manufactured home. Panelists will describe the status of current privately-owned parks, discuss a new state-funded affordable modular park, provide an overview of the FEMA trailer purchase program, and detail varied sources of funding assistance available to home buyers. Presentations will be followed by an opportunity for questions and answers.
Nothing about recovery is easy, and although our manufactured home parks are going to be different when they rebuild, there are signs of hope. Please join us for a discussion of our new manufactured home park landscape.

The proliferation of illegal hemp and cannabis cultivation in Southern Oregon has generated enormous public concern. This community forum will provide an opportunity to hear from individuals and agencies on the front lines regarding the issues that have emerged, including permitting, regulatory response, law enforcement, code compliance, worker conditions, water usage, and past and potential future legislation.
