Friends –

Many of you who receive this legislative newsletter reside outside of House District 19, South Salem, Turner, and Aumsville. Somehow over the years you have become part of the address book belonging to this legislative office and in return are a recipient! Thank you for reading and engaging with another district in Oregon.

Today I am writing to share with you the affect that redistricting has had on House District 19. Over the course of my tenure in the House it has been a distinct honor to serve the constituents of HD19. Helping resolve issues with an agency, creating legislation that benefits the good of our community, and encouraging your engagement with your government is what makes this job special. Although the boundaries of HD19 have shifted, at the end of the day it’s not about a line, but about the people and ensuring your needs relative to state government receive a response and are represented at the Capitol. It will continue to be an honor to serve the current constituents of HD19 and begin to get to know the new constituents!

So how did the redistricting changes affect the current boundaries? As I shared in my floor speech on Monday afternoon the complete complexion of HD19 has been altered.

South Salem is uniquely different – we still have extensive farmland, and at the same time have seen the urban lifestyle grow. Along with the small rural towns of Turner and Aumsville, House District 19 truly reflects Oregon on a larger scale.   The metro urban area of Oregon, and the vast rural areas of Southern and Eastern Oregon.

While obviously not as large as these vast areas in the state - a district that has been able to carefully balance the needs of its constituents – urban and rural dwellers through the hard work and dedication of 3 city municipalities and one county.

We share a diverse workforce, farmworkers, teachers, lumberjacks, nurses, ranchers, and farmers – yes there are 7 dairy farms in House District 19. While at the same time possessing large employers such as Amazon, Home Depot, and Federal Express.

The maps below reflect the changes.   Notably, Turner and Aumsville are now in House District 17.

In summary HD19 will essentially be a Salem district, and I look forward to continuing to serve.  As always, if we can be of help to you as you navigate your state government call or email. My door is always open and my staff, Pam McClain, Lena Prine, and I welcome your participation. As your state representative, I am here to listen, respond, and lead.

Yours truly,

sig
