About 250 sheep, cattle, pigs, chickens and more will cross the auction block Saturday afternoon at the annual Linn County Youth Livestock Auction in the Calapooia Arena at the Linn County Fair & Expo Center.

Auction president Rob Damon said this year’s event will be live and on-line. Last year’s auction brought in more than $500,000.

“On-line registration is underway at www.lcyla.com,” Damon said. “Folks can also register the day of the auction. We will host the annual buyers’ lunch starting at 11:30 a.m. and the auction will start at 1 p.m.” Anyone who wants to add cash to any of the purchases can do so on-line through Wednesday, July 21, Damon said.

Last year, the Ag Booster Club and others added $28,000 to the kitty. “We’re excited to be here, and the kids are really excited to be back with their projects,” Damon said. “Some of these kids have invested a lot of time and effort, some starting last September, in their projects.” Damon said buying an animal helps a 4-H or FFA member, you know where your meat is coming from and there is a tax benefit since anything paid over the base set per pound price, is tax deductible as a donation.” “We have butchering services available for all of the animals, so people don’t have to worry about that,” Damon said.

Auction officers and board members are: Rob Damon, president; Donald Fleckenstein, vice president; Andrea Leao, secretary; Stacey Lyle, treasurer; Sarah Neuschwander, 4-H representative; Brenda Phearson, FFA representative; Alissa Curry, business representative; Geoff Davis, community representative; Jason Lyle/Blaine Suing, weigh masters; Hannah Glaser, 4-H youth representative; Chloe Brinson, FFA youth representative.

SMOKE-FILLED AIR AND YOUR HEALTH

Smoke and Health

FROM AIRNOW.GOV:

While not everyone has the same sensitivity to wildfire smoke, it’s still a good idea to avoid breathing smoke if you can help it. And when smoke is heavy, such as can occur in close proximity to a wildfire, it’s bad for everyone.

FROM INCIWEB.NWCG.GOV:

InciWeb is an interagency all-risk incident information management system. The system was developed with two primary missions:

  1. Provide the public a single source of incident related information

A number of supporting systems automate the delivery of incident information to remote sources. This ensures that the information regarding active incidents is consistent, and the delivery is timely.
