Dear Friends and Neighbors,
This week, the Oregon Office of Economic Analysis released the June Economic and Revenue Forecast. We have learned that Oregon’s public health practices saved thousands of lives, and that our economic response has created a solid foundation for a healthy and growing economy.
As we continue to rebuild during this historic legislative session, we must be thoughtful about how we build a strong and prosperous Oregon that does not leave our marginalized and vulnerable communities behind. These communities have been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 emergency, and for recovery to be equitable for all Oregonians, deliberate and smart investment is required.
To achieve this, we called for federal support, and the Biden Administration and Congress stepped up by passing the American Rescue Plan. The Oregon Legislature must now also deliver a strong economic package. That’s why the Oregon Senate Democrats will fight for the investments needed to rebuild and recover equitably.
 After a difficult year, this forecast gives us good reason to be optimistic. The pandemic isn’t over yet, but we get closer every day as more Oregonians choose to get vaccinated. Vaccines are our strongest tool for overcoming COVID-19, and by following public health we can bring about the bright, post-pandemic future we’re all ready to see.
