During the first two weeks in April, the Oregon House met — consisting of 14+ hours days, up to 6 days a week — and passed over 100 bills. Below is a quick summary of the bills I co-sponsored that passed the House and are now before the Senate.
Wildfire Recovery
HB 2341 - Allows a county to prorate property taxes if a home was destroyed by wildfire or other declared natural disaster.
HB 2607 - Suspends construction related taxes to rebuild a home if destroyed by wildfire or other declared natural disaster.
Business Recovery
HB 3389 - Alleviates pressure on business unemployment insurance rates from skyrocketing due to the virus outbreak and forced business closures.
Healthcare
HB 3139 - Requires parental notification if a child is assessed by mental health professional to be seriously contemplating suicide.
HB 2508 - Strengthens telemedicine by requiring parity for reimbursement rates between in-person healthcare provider visits and remote-visits.
Privacy
HB 2539 - Adds further protections in order to keep a juror’s identity private.
HB 2459 - As video conferencing has become part of our daily lives, HB 2459 includes “video conferencing” in Oregon’s privacy laws.
Higher Education
HB 2919 - Requires Oregon public institutions of higher education to fully disclosure the total cost required for course materials, including fees.
HB 2542 - Requires Oregon public institutions of higher education to fully disclosure all mandatary fees.
Bullying
HB 2631 - Requires school district to notify parents if their child has been harassed, bullied or intimidated. Includes cyberbullying.

What's Ahead
The Oregon Legislature is now half way through the 2021 session. However, the more controversial debates surrounding gun control, police restrictions, clean energy, taxes and budgets are still ahead of us.
