Commissioner John Lindsey was the longest-tenured member of the Linn County Board of Commissioners, and was midway through his sixth, four-year term in office when he passed away early Tuesday from cancer-related causes.
It is hard to imagine that someone with such a vibrant energy and deep passion for the citizens of our county is gone. Commissioner Lindsey’s dedication and long history of service has been invaluable to Linn County, and we can count ourselves blessed for having benefited from his servant’s heart for so long.
The Precinct Committee Persons of the Linn County Republican Party will meet to create a list of names to be considered for appointment to fill the vacancy. From that list, the Board of Commissioners will select Commissioner Lindsey's successor to serve the remaining two years on his term.
For more information on the appointment process, please contact the Linn County Republican Party at linnchairman@gmail.com or 541-791-6446.
Congratulations to the K-8 students of Lebanon School District who were able to attend their classes in person this past Monday! It is wonderful seeing so many of our district students back in school.
Last Friday, March 5th, the Governor announced she is calling on school districts to return to full or hybrid in-person instruction on or before the weeks of March 29 for grades K-5, April 19 for grades 6-12. You can read Governor Brown's Executive Order released this morning HERE.
After the weeks of March 29 and April 19, all public schools in Oregon will operate under either a fully on-site or a hybrid instructional model when counties meet or exceed Oregon’s advisory COVID-19 metrics. Individual students or parents who want to remain in comprehensive distance learning, or who have health needs, may do so.
If you have questions or need more information about schools in your district, please contact your local superintendents or administrators.
We heard public hearings in the House Committee on Agriculture & Natural Resources this week on HB 2555 & HB 2725 which would affect boating and water sports on the Willamette River in the “Newberg Pool”. These restrictions have been a heated topic between boat users and some property owners for several years, and something that should be on the radars of everyone who enjoys recreating on the water—especially in the areas surrounding the “Newberg Pool”.
Our reservoirs here in House District 17 are at the top of boat users’ lists for alternate recreating locations if towed water sports are banned in the “Newberg Pool”. This would have the potential of increasing congestion and safety concerns on Detroit Lake, Foster Lake, and Green Peter Reservoir. If these bills concern you, be sure and contact the members of the committee to let us know.
On 3/10/21 a Wildfire Survivor contacted the Santiam Service Integration Team to inform them they had found a home and needed assistance with Security Deposit and Prorated Rent. The Disaster Case Manager asked further questions and the “landlord” was not willing to meet to sign paperwork but demanded $1200 Security Deposit to hold the unit until next Saturday when they would sign the paperwork and get the keys. Here are some things to be careful of:
- A Landlord or Property Management company will never ask for a security deposit before signing a lease.
- Most Landlords or Property Managers will require your screening fees to be paid by check or money order.
- Landlords or Property Managers will not require you to pay anything by Facebook Pay, Zelle, Venmo or any other electronic transfer.
Please do your due diligence and check out listings and ask a lot of questions before exchanging money with anyone. If you have any doubts you can always speak with Housing Coordinator, Sonya Ryland, at 503-769-9319.
