Redistricting Oregon

Kim Wallan

Neighbors,

As you know, the US Census prompts state legislatures to perform redistricting to account for changes in population. This process happens only once every decade, and is a constitutional responsibility of your state legislature. Redistricting and balancing the state budget are the main focus of this legislative session, which started January 11 and ends June 27.

The Oregon House Committee on Redistricting will take testimony from constituents of each Congressional District in turn--Oregon currently has 5. Medford's state House and Senate Districts are currently in Congressional District 2.

After hearing testimony, the committees will draw new maps for both the Oregon State House and Senate and Oregon's Congressional Districts. We expect to add a sixth Congressional District this year.

Your state legislators have a serious and difficult task ahead of them. They want to know your thoughts about how the current districts in Oregon serve its residents. Do you believe the state has been served well by the last redistricting? Do you believe the current district boundaries are fair? What are your concerns about changes to the districts you live in? Below you will find information about how to testify and about the Redistricting Committee.

While the Capitol remains closed, my staff and I are available by phone or email to answer questions and provide assistance in any way we can. Email us at Rep.KimWallan@oregonlegislature.gov

Best,
Kim
