My First Month As A State Representative!

Rep Cate Swearing In Ceremony

What a way to start my time as a State Representative! The public is locked out of our Capitol building, we’re having virtual committee meetings, I have limited interaction with fellow Legislators, and all of this on top of a global pandemic, our businesses reeling from closures and restrictions, and wildfires that devastated so much of our district!

To say this wasn’t what I imagined when I decided to run for this position in Fall of 2019 would be a tremendous understatement, but I still count it as the greatest honor to represent the people of House District 17. We have some major issues to work through, and I know it will be a challenging session, but I know we’ll get through it together.

With everything going on in our “virtual” lives, I know it can be easy to ignore what’s happening in our Legislature but engaging in the process has never been more critical. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if there is ever anything we can help with. I am committed to making my office a resource for you to make your voice heard on the issues that matter most.

This session I will be focusing on helping our communities recover from the devastating wildfires and COVID lockdowns, while also being a voice for rural Oregon and bringing my experience in agriculture to the Capitol.

There are so many ways YOU can get engaged in these issues too. Check out the Citizen Legislative Engagement Portal to get you started, or reach out to my office!

Meet Jessica!

Being a State Representative isn’t a job anyone can do alone! As you reach out to my office, you will more than likely be in touch with Jessica. You may have been introduced to Jessica a little on my Facebook page, but I know not everyone has Facebook.

Jessica

Jessica was born and raised in Grants Pass, Oregon, and graduated from Western Oregon University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and a minor in Economics. In her spare time, Jessica enjoys reading, baking (cookies!!!), and being a member of pyrotechnic crews across the state doing firework displays (that’s right, she literally gets to blow stuff up!)

Jessica has worked in various roles in the Oregon State Legislature since 2017. So in addition to helping me keep up on everything, she’s more than able to help you if you have questions about the legislative process or want to learn how to be more connected during session. Helping constituents find their voice in government is her favorite part of the job, so don’t hesitate to reach out!
