Winter Storm Updates

Representative Raquel Moore-Green

February 16, 2021

Friends -

We find ourselves weathering yet another storm.  This one brought destruction and inconveniences that have tens of thousands still without power, septic, and water.

Both the City of Salem and Marion County have declared a state of emergency.  They each have vital information on their respective websites and facebook pages (https://www.co.marion.or.us/PW/EmergencyManagement/Pages/alerts.aspx and  https://www.cityofsalem.net/alerts-and-news ).  We know that with the lack of power not everyone has access to this information, so if you do have access be sure and check with your family, friends and acquaintances who are without power to make sure they too know where to turn for assistance.

The most sought after request for information in our office has been those seeking warming shelters and for our elderly community.  This is what we know as of today:

Warming centers open

In cooperation with Marion County, the Salem Evangelical Church and St. Edward Catholic Church will open warming centers on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021, for area residents still without power. Both locations will provide a safe place to warm up and charge electronics. COVID-19 physical distancing protocols will be in place and KN95 masks and hand sanitizer will be provided to guests.

Salem Evangelical Church 455 Locust St. NE, Salem Opens at 10 a.m.

Saint Edward Catholic Church 5303 River Road N, Keizer Opens at Noon

Both warming centers will be open as day centers with no overnight accommodations. Guests will be encouraged to stop in to warm up, have a snack, and charge electronics then depart to allow room for additional guests. Reservations are not needed to access the warming centers.

Both warming centers plan to open as necessary until power is restored. Additional updates will be provided as more information is available.

Winter Storm Call Center Open

Winter Storm Call Center - 503-588-5108

Marion County has established a call center for residents in need following the ice storm and subsequent widespread power outages. Call 503-588-5108 for information about available resources or to request a welfare check for a medically vulnerable friend or family member in unincorporated areas of the county. Current call center hours are Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Please do not call this number for updates about power outages. Please call your power company for that information.

In the interim if we can be of help to you as you navigate your state government please call or email. My door is always open and my staff, Pam McClain, Lena Prine, and I welcome your participation. As your state representative, I am here to listen, respond, and lead. Please be safe.

All my best, rmg

Local Service Providers

The City has been working with their resource partners to maintain communication with those sheltering in Wallace Marine and Cascade Gateway Parks. Salem police and code enforcement officers have added additional directed patrols to check in and make direct contact with campers. The City continues to support overnight campers with potable water, portable toilets, and waste management including garbage receptacles and garbage pick-up. Homeless shelters in our area remain open but may be without power. The ARCHES day use center is currently open and the Salem Warming Network will activate locations if the temperatures drop below 32 degrees. Sites are open 7 p.mp-6:45 a.m. during activation. Guests are welcome to check-in at any time throughout the night. Locations for warming centers include:
