Please Support Oregonians in Need

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

My heart is with all of the Oregon families impacted by the devastating wildfires across the state. The loss of lives and homes, with additional losses likely ahead, is deeply heartbreaking. Brave firefighters, first responders, and volunteers are taking on incredible risks and burdens to protect Oregonians. Earlier today, Governor Brown held a news conference to explain the current status of the fires. You can watch by the clicking the image below. OPB is also providing live updates at this link.

If your friends or families are near the fires, the most important thing they can do right now is to listen to the warnings and directions of local authorities. Fires can intensify, change directions, and move across the landscape with unpredictable speed. To the extent possible, please have your valuables ready to go - evacuation orders can arrive suddenly.

As heroic firefighters battle to contain these blazes and protect human lives, many organizations have pulled together resources from the State of Oregon and affected counties to help you stay up to date:

Please consider making a donation to the Red Cross Cascades, the Oregon Food Bank, or a local non-profit relief organization. They are doing phenomenal work to keep evacuees comfortable after the harrowing experiences and losses that so many have endured.

While many Oregonians are not directly impacted by the current wildfires, smoke is spreading across the state, leading to dangerous air quality for many with chronic health conditions. Click here for more information on the health threats from wildfire smoke and how to stay as safe as possible.

This has been a year of great sacrifice. We are once again faced with an unprecedented reality and overlapping crises. Thank you for doing what you can to follow updates and orders from authorities, assist your neighbors when possible, and take precautionary measures to prevent additional fires from starting. Oregonians know how to look out for one another, and again it’s so important that we do.

Take care and please reach out my office if you are having trouble finding information or resources. We will do what we can to help you in these dangerous and difficult times.

Sincerely,

1
