Coronavirus Update: How to Access Rent Assistance

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I hope you enjoyed the long weekend and found some healthy ways to relax.

Last month, the legislative Emergency Board allocated $8.5 million in rent assistance for Oregonians impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. This rent assistance was dedicated to individuals needing help with rent because of the pandemic and who had been earning at 50% or less of the area median income.

Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) has distributed these funds to regional Community Action Agencies (CAAs), who will distribute this rent assistance. Below are their direct numbers. You can find out more about these community organizations here.

Unemployment Update

Since my newsletter last Thursday, and subsequent television new coverage by KOIN 6, my office has received 165 emails from individuals who have had trouble hearing back from the Oregon Employment Department about their unemployment claims. We are working to follow up on each case and are getting that information to the department for their assistance. Thank you for sharing your stories with me.

Tomorrow, the House Business and Labor Committee will be meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The last hour of their meeting, scheduled to begin around 1:30 p.m., will be devoted to hearing from the Oregon Employment Department about their processing of unemployment benefits. You can watch the committee live online by going here.
