COVID-19 Update

Senator Ginny Burdick

COVID-19 Update - March 27th

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I hope everyone is staying home and staying healthy.

I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to limit your contact with others. If you are able, please stay home. By doing so, you are directly helping to protect our community resources and our frontline workers. You are helping save lives.

National Response

Graphic

Yesterday, the United States Senate passed a $2 trillion dollar rescue package. Today, the House passed the bill and the President signed it. This linked synopsis, put together by the Senate Majority Office, highlights the major provisions in the bill.

We have been working to understand the details of what is in the bill and analyze what it means for Oregon. This will be important for me and my legislative colleagues to understand what state action will be needed.

Role of the Legislature

As I have said in my previous newsletters, Governor Kate Brown will likely call the legislature into a Special Session soon. In the meantime, the Joint Committee on Coronavirus Response co-chairs have submitted their policy recommendations to leadership for what the legislature should consider in a Special Session.

Additionally, the Senate Democratic Caucus has launched a new webpage with resources and information about the response to COVID-19. You can find helpful links, infographics and more information about legislative action there. My office will continue to build upon the resources on this site.

How Can You Help?

As I have been sending these newsletters, there is one thing that I have repeatedly been asking us all to do: take care of each other. Some of you have asked what you can do for your community, so I am providing a list below of activities and donations you can make to help your fellow Oregonians at this time.

My office remains a resource for you in these trying times. Please reach out if you have any additional questions or concerns.

Yours in Sequestration,
