COVID-19 Informational Update

Greetings:

New projections show that the state is at a critical moment in the fight against COVID-19. To alter the trajectory of new infections, it is crucial that every one of us does our part to give Oregon’s health care system the chance to ramp up to meet an overwhelming surge on its system.

FUNDING FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

The United States Senate unanimously passed a $2 trillion dollar emergency aid package to help Americans recover from the economic impacts of the novel coronavirus. This includes:

  • $1,200 per adult and $500 per child for most Americans
  • $350 billion in fully forgivable loans to small businesses
  • $150 billion to support healthcare system needs
  • Expansion of unemployment benefits to gig workers, self-employed workers, and contractors

  • Governor Kate Brown placed stricter measures for individuals, businesses, public organizations, and outdoor spaces to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The press release is available here
  • The Oregon State Police complied a list of answers to commonly asked questions regarding the enforcement of Executive Order 20-12 that can be accessed online in here.

STATE LEGISLATIVE ACTION PLAN

The Joint Special Committee on Coronavirus Response has met four times in the last 10 days, and has categorized a list of priorities for legislative action in a special session. All of the meeting materials and recordings can be viewed on OLIS, and the timing of the session will be announced as soon as possible.


OREGON HEALTH AUTHORITY UPDATE

  • Oregon health officials and hospitals announced a joint statewide action plan to dramatically bolster the state’s ability to treat people with COVID-19 illness who need hospital care.
  • OHA is now releasing the daily situation status report, which is produced jointly with Oregon Office of Emergency Management. It details the overall picture of the COVID-19 outbreak and the response across government agencies. Read more here.
  • Oregon Health Authority reports new cases once a day on its website: www.healthoregon.org/coronavirus.

STATE DEADLINE EXTENSIONS & DEPARTMENT UPDATES

  • The Oregon Department of Revenue has extended the deadline to file state taxes from April 15th to July 15th.
  •  The Employment Department website has updated FAQs and additional information regarding unemployment benefits options related to COVID-19. 
  • The Oregon Medical Board has adopted a temporary rule to increase the state’s health care provider workforce. 
  • The DMV will be closed to the general public until April 28th for the exception of commercial driver knowledge tests and commercial driver license issuance.
  • The Department of Consumer Business Services came out with a number of new rules related to COVID-19. The insurance-related rules can be found here
