Reminder: March 12th Town Hall

Representative Andrea Salinas

Reminder: Town Hall this Thursday, March 12th

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I wanted to remind you that this Thursday, I will be hosting an end-of-session town hall with Senator Wagner and Representative Prusak from 6:30pm-7:30pm at the Lake Oswego City Council Chambers (380 A Avenue, Lake Oswego, OR 97034). Please come with your questions and comments. We hope to see you there!

A note about COVID-19:  Public health officials are not recommending the cancellation of public gatherings at this time, but we will keep a close eye on the news and send an email alert if anything changes. However, CDC guidance does say that if you are at a higher risk of getting sick (those over 60 years of age or those with an underlying condition), please avoid crowds to the best of your ability. To help keep our community healthy and safe, please do not attend the town hall if you feel ill.

COVID-19 Update

On Sunday, Governor Kate Brown and Oregon health officials announced that another 7 cases of presumptive COVID-19 have been identified. The new cases are in Douglas, Marion and Washington counties.

Accordingly, Governor Brown has declared a State of Emergency in Oregon. This gives the Oregon Health Authority and the Office of Emergency Services "access to all the resources at the state's disposal to stem the spread of this disease" such as activating reserves of emergency volunteer health care professionals, expanding the use of telemedicine, and increasing access to testing.

This morning, the Legislative Emergency Board allocated $5 million for expenses involved in tracking and treating and preventing COVID-19.

As OHA officials said on Sunday, Oregon is fortunate to have robust local and state public health systems, as well as requirements for paid sick leave. However, we all must continue to practice tried and true disease prevention practices: wash your hands, avoid touching your face, and stay home if you are sick.

I am in daily communication with the Oregon Health Authority, and I will continue to update you as I learn more. I also encourage you to use the Oregon Health Authority’s official website to find the most accurate and up to date information regarding the COVID-19 outbreak in Oregon. You can also subscribe to receive the latest updates.

If you need any help locating resources, gathering information about the coronavirus, or learning more about the state and local response, please reach out to my office by calling 503-986-1438 or emailing Rep.AndreaSalinas@oregonlegislature.gov
