Dear Friends,

Senator Kathleen Taylor (D-Milwaukie) and I would like to invite you to attend a pre-session town hall on January 22, 2020 at 6:30pm. The event will be held at SMILE Station in the Sellwood-Moreland neighborhood of Portland.

The next legislative session begins on February 3rd and will last for only 35 days, ending in early March. With new proposals coming down the line, some necessary adjustments to current laws, and the implementation of 2019 laws, this year is sure to be a barn burner. In preparation for the start of the session, Senator Taylor and I will be discussing a number of hot topics.

Sen.Taylor

Everyone is curious about how the newly enacted Student Success Act will be implemented. Schools across the state are hard at work making sure the new money is well-spent, and we’ll be discussing how our education system is turning the goals of the Student Success Act into reality.

We’ll have the inside scoop on the newly refined cap-and-trade bill that Democrats are bringing to the legislature in the short session. It is long past time Oregon played its part in combating climate change, and conditions now are even more serious than when Republicans killed the old bill by walking out of the Senate at the end of the 2019 session.

You can also hear our thoughts about the November ballot measure that could finally bring political campaign contribution limits to Oregon politics. We need to have reasonable limits on contributions so ordinary people can have the most powerful voice in our elections.

And we'll be taking your questions on other issues coming to the legislature in February.

Refreshments will be provided. We hope to see you there!
