Albany, Oregon – Come join me for a cup of coffee in a casual environment. This is a great opportunity to get an update of current issues I am working on at the Capitol and a forum to ask your questions. My constituents’ concerns are important to me, I need to hear from you. Hope to see you there!

I am concerned about Oregon continuing to be affordable for everyone. All Oregonians will feel the pain with the increased cost for the ‘privilege of doing business in Oregon’. Regardless of whether you own a business or not, I hope we all take offense to how the state views those that have taken on the risk of creating and maintaining jobs through the heavy responsibility of owning a business. I thank those entrepreneurs and dream makers.
Temporary rules just released from the Department of Revenue: https://www.oregon.gov/newsroom/Pages/NewsDetail.aspx?newsid=3519
Points from the Oregon DOR:
“The CAT is imposed on businesses for the privilege of doing business in Oregon. It applies to all business entities including those located inside and outside of Oregon. It is measured on a business’s commercial activity—the total amount a business realizes from commercial activity in Oregon.”
I will add personally this is based on gross profits. Any tax mechanism based on gross profits is extremely irresponsible and very telling as to how the State of Oregon sees job creators. It is also disrespectful to pass a tax that just failed a short time ago at the ballot box. The Oregon Legislature apparently believes it knows better than the voters of Oregon.

Domestic air travel is changing. Starting Oct 1, 2020, your OREGON license or ID card won't meet federal standards to get past TSA. You'll need #RealID compliant identification or a passport. We all know this will be a nightmare. Having information and dates hopefully will help.
Our sources at ODOT provided this UPDATE: “Beginning July 2020, ODOT/DMV will be opening some offices across the state for limited Saturday hours and are actively staffing up to ensure more capacity for all the people who will be coming in to get Real ID cards."
DMV Details:
- In 12 field offices across the state (there are 60 total field offices across the state)
- 8am-12pm Saturdays
- By appointment only
- For Real ID transactions only

I am excited to be part of Salvation Army’s annual ‘Make a Difference for $20 – The $20 Challenge’! This Saturday, Dec. 14th in Albany, for every $20 bill dropped into the red kettle (or online!), an anonymous donor will match it with $100! $20 in = $100 out! I will be ringing the bell at Hobby Lobby this Saturday from 10-11am!
So far this kettle season, The Salvation Army Red Kettles in the Linn-Benton area have raised over $21,000 with still $99,000 needed to meet the goal of $120,000. Kettles are located across the community making it easy for the community to make a difference in the lives of their neighbors in need this giving season.
Every donation supports Christmas family assistance, year-round assistance for low-income families and individuals, a shopping-style food pantry, youth programs, summer camps, character-building classes, homeless assistance, senior assistance, and more.
“This year with fewer days between Thanksgiving and Christmas it makes it more challenging to raise the funds we need to help our neighbors,” says [Lieutenant Charles DeJesus, The Salvation Army Albany Corps Community Center [Corps Officer]. “We are fortunate to have great support from the community, whether it’s ringing a bell or making a donation to a Red Kettle.”
Help make a difference – come on down Saturday to Hobby Lobby or find any local Salvation Army Red Kettle to join in on The $20 Challenge!
