Behavioral Health is a Top Priority

Since becoming elected sitting as the Vice-Chair of the House Healthcare Committee has been an honor. With my medical background as a dentist and commitment to providing quality healthcare, this has been a position I have enjoyed and spent many hours researching different healthcare topics. When most people think of healthcare, they think of going to the doctor and physical health, when in reality there is also oral health and behavioral health. I have often stated, "Behavioral health is the last frontier in healthcare." Behavioral health issues like addiction and mental illnesses are often more challenging to treat and diagnose, however a commitment to make these a priority could lead to very positive impacts in society overall. This session I will be the Vice-Chair of a new committee that has the specific goal of tackling these challenging issues. The house behavioral health committee will be studying and introducing new ways to combat behavioral health issues. In addition the Behavioral Health Advisory Council had it's first meeting on Thursday (pictured above). It is encouraging to see groups coming together to help Oregonians who really need it and I hope positive changes are in the near future.
Getting out in the Community
 Representative Hayden had the opportunity to join a South Eugene Politics class for a great discussion. The students were engaged and the discussion topics ranged from vaping to nuclear energy. Thank you for the invite South Eugene.
