A Tale of Two Saturdays

Michael Dembrow

Friends and Neighbors,

As promised, I have additional details to share with you about two special events this month -- tomorrow's Bike Town Hall and next Saturday's trip out to the Boardman area in eastern Oregon.

Bike Town Hall -- Saturday 9/14

Tomorrow (Saturday, 9/14) is our annual Bike Town Hall.  Here is a brief look at the itinerary:

  • 9:30am Meet up at APANO at corner of 82nd and SE Division St.
  • 10:25am Leave for Asian Health & Services Center
  • 11am Arrive at Asian Health & Services Center (9035 SE Foster Rd, Portland, OR 97266)
  • 11:50am Leave for Laurelwood Center/Mt. Scott Learning Center
  • 12:10pm Arrive at Laurelwood Center/Mt. Scott Learning Center (6148 SE Holgate Blvd, Portland, OR 97206)
  • 12:45pm Leave for Mercado
  • 12:55pm Arrive at Mercado (7238 SE Foster Rd, Portland, OR 97206) for lunch and final presentation/discussion.

Please be prompt so we can get the ride going on time and stay on schedule -- we've got a packed morning for you followed by lunch at the Mercado.

Eastern Oregon Trip -- Saturday 9/21

Our return trip to the Boardman area is shaping up to be even better than the last one!  Sen. Lew Frederick and I will be taking a group of Portland-area constituents out to Sen. Bill Hansell's neck of the woods to learn about a number of issues related to agriculture, trade, and water use and storage.  If you'd like to join us, we have a limited number of spaces available and transportation is included.  Please email me today to RSVP!

We will be departing NE Portland (likely Gateway Transit Center) at 7am on Saturday, 9/21.  Our first stop will be a tour of the bustling activity at the Port of Morrow, followed by lunch and conversation with local farmers, business and civic leaders at the SAGE Center in Boardman.  We will then get a tour of the Easterday Farms operation (you may recall this as the former Lost Valley Farm site) and learn about the investments being made by the new owners of the farm.

After that, we will get a look at modern irrigation in action at Madison Ranches in Echo, and preview a proposed aquifer recharge project that would provide additional value to area farmers.  We will finish up at Bellinger Farms in Hermiston before heading back to Portland with hand-picked melons in tow.

This is a full day commitment, but I'm really looking forward to it and I hope you'll come along for the ride!
