Bike Town Hall Saturday!

Representative Smith Warner

Bike Town Hall this Saturday, 9/14

Hello Friends,

For over a decade, the legislators representing Senate District 23 (a good chunk of NE and SE Portland) have hosted a Bike Town Hall, and this year will probably be the best yet. Rain or shine we will ride through SE Portland visiting sites, learning about bike infrastructure and hearing presentations from community organizations and leaders such as NAYA, APANO, Transition Projects, and many more. The round-trip mileage will be around 8 miles, so please bring water! Some snacks will be provided.

Sounds like a blast right? Bring your bike and join us this Saturday 9/14 at 9:30AM at APANO (SE 82nd & Division), we will be leaving the site no later than 10:15am. We will finish up at the Portland Mercado (SE 72nd & Foster) around 1:30pm after a busy and fun day in our community with your elected representatives. Please feel free to bring kids -- this is a family-friendly event.

Want to join the Bike Town Hall but don't have a functional bike right now? Or, are you unsure if riding a two-wheeled upright bike for a few hours will work for you? We are proud to coordinate with PBOT to offer Adaptive BIKETOWN bikes for anyone who would prefer to ride an adaptive bike. We can provide hand cycles, tandems and tricycles, including an e-assist tricycle. Please reach out by email or phone by 12pm on 9/13 to reserve your bike: rep.barbarasmithwarner@oregonlegislature.gov or 503-986-1445.

Adaptive Bikes

We also will be offering a limited supply of Lime e-scooters and free helmets for constituents to use, so also reach out if you would like to reserve one. Users are encourage to download the Lime app in advance of the ride. Please note that while you will need to add a payment card to the account, these scooters will be free to use for the event. When the ride is finished, they will be need to be parked outside of APANO so that they can be collected.

BSW Updates

Summer has been good to me, as I've had the chance to spend time with family, friends, and start to visit my 37 House colleagues across the state. 32 more to go!

BSW and TAL
EPAP Picnic

Thanks to the neighbors, volunteers, co-chairs, and community members for hosting me and so many elected officials at the East Portland Action Plan Picnic and General Meeting. I'm proud to represent, and fight for, East Portland.

I also had an opportunity to visit the newly modernized Grant High School, where my son attends as a Junior. It is a truly amazing space.

We just celebrated Labor Day, and the struggle is not over. Right now, higher education, healthcare, and grocery workers are demanding fair pay and good benefits and I am proud to stand in solidarity with them. When we organize collectively, we can achieve amazing things.

District News

At the end of August, a 4-alarm fire raged in the Madison South neighborhood of House District 45. Several businesses and homes were heavily damaged, neighbors were evacuated, and the air was smoky and heavily polluted. I'm so thankful to the firefighters and first responders who helped control this dangerous blazed and keep everyone safe in the heart of Northeast Portland. However, many families and business owners are facing major costs and barriers to getting back to normal. If you are able, please donate to help get Madison South back on its feet. Thank you! www.gofundme.com/ForMadisonSouth

Sincerely,

Sig
