Greetings! You’re reading my first newsletter from the Oregon State Senate, which I appreciate.

Most legislators agree that newsletters are a good idea. I actually think they’re necessary. Entrenched interests will oppose some of the changes Oregon needs, which means that these changes will only happen at the insistence of  determined, well-informed Oregonians. They—you—will have to know what’s unfolding up here “in the Building,” so that you can weigh in at the right moments. These newsletter updates will feature legislation that I’m actively working on, as well as other issues I know to be important to the people of District 3. We’ll aim to keep these reports clear and concise, and let you know how to dig deeper on issues you want to know more about.

The "we" I mention is Chief of Staff Serin Bussell, Legislative Aide Adam Lohman, three student interns and me. If you contact my office, you’ll probably talk to Serin or Adam. I’m passing the keyboard on to them to let you know who they are.

My name is Serin Bussell, and I am Senator Golden’s Chief of Staff this Legislative Session. I have a background in geology, nonprofit management, and business administration, and I’m passionate about environmental justice, affordable housing, and healthcare policy. Please reach out to if you need any assistance with scheduling meetings or other questions. I can be reached at or 503-986-1703.

Adam Lohman

Hi! My name is Adam Lohman, I am Senator Golden’s Legislative Aide. I grew up in Jacksonville and just graduated from college last May. I have a background in theater and environmental studies, and I’m very excited to be working in the legislature this session. I’m passionate about wildlife, land management, and baking. Please contact me if you have any questions about policy or communications at our office phone (503-986-1703) or at

Do you know other people in the Rogue Valley who might want to know about the issues we’ll be tackling this session, including climate, wildfires and smoke, affordable housing, education (pre-K through higher ed), health care, economic fairness and campaign finance reform?  Please invite them to sign up for this newsletter at We will not share contact information with anyone else for any reason.

And if you like Twitter, follow @SenatorGolden for more frequent and impulsive updates.

Our best to you for now. Please remember to do what you can do.
