Oregon's Wounded Warrior Bill, introduced by Senator Manning, will receive it's first hearing on Tuesday March 7th in the Senate Veteran's and Emergency Preparedness Committee.
Senate Bill 796 would direct the Department of Transportation (ODOT) to issue Oregon Wounded Warrior parking placards to qualified disabled military veterans.
The placard would enable the holder to park a motor vehicle in any public parking zone, restricted by time, free of charge.
Veterans would need proof of eligibility of at least 50% disability as a result of causes connected with their service, and have been released from service under honorable conditions.
The members of the Senate Veteran's and Emergency Preparedness Committee will be hearing testimony on the bill at the Salem Capitol at 3:00 PM on Tuesday. Senator Manning will testify in support of the bill and we expect others to lend their voices in support as well. The Committee members will have the first opportunity to weigh-in and vote on the bill, in the event that a work session (or vote) is scheduled at a later date. Often this depends on the testimony and any concerns that are brought up in the public hearing.
Request for Testimony If you or someone you know would like to testify in support of Senator Manning's bill, you can do so in two ways. 1) Appear in person at the Oregon State Capitol at 3:00 PM. The hearing will be in Hearing Room B on the main floor. Our office is happy to provide instructions, but you can also review the process here.
If you are unable to appear in person, written testimony is always appreciated. This can be submitted by email very easily prior to the hearing by emailing the Committee staff here.
Personal stories and positive impacts are always effective, but if you'd like to provide testimony and need a little assistance, please contact our office.
For more information on how to testify contact our office at 503-986-1707 or by email.
