Temporary Permit Center Opens May 15
The 4th Floor of the Civic Center will undergo renovations this year. During this time, a Temporary Permit Center will be established to maintain service levels for the community.
The Temporary Permit Center will still be located on the 4th floor of the Civic Center and will provide the same fast, fair, friendly, and flexible service customers have come to expect.

Century HS Students Learn about Planning
Planning staff Chris Barry, Ruth Klein, Rachel Marble, and David McIlnay presented to the Advanced Placement Geography class at Century High School with a focus on the planning profession and planning in Hillsboro.
The presentation also included real world application of geography elements that the students have been learning throughout the school year.

Hillsboro Spanish Guide Inspires Other Cities
The City of Salem plans to create its own Spanish-language Resources Guide after seeing the City of Hillsboro’s Ciudad de Hillsboro en español print guide.
Hillsboro's guide, created by Bilingual Communications Specialist Beatriz Medel, inspired other cities as well.

Community Conversations: YAC
High school students are encouraged to apply by May 26 to be part of the City of Hillsboro’s Youth Advisory Council for 2023-24.
YAC’s student leaders, Naim Ferris and Mariana Monroy Gonzalez, and YAC Coordinator Michaela Canete recently appeared on Community Conversations with Mayor Callaway to share their experiences.

City Staff Help Update Hillsboro's Official Visitor Guide
Several pages in the 2023 Washington County Chamber´s Visitor Guide — "Hillsboro & Beyond" — were created by Graphic Design Specialist Kali Cooper with assistance from Economic & Community Development PIO Lauren Scott and Parks & Recreation PIO Cindy Dauer.
The partnership work with the Chamber makes it easier for new residents and tourists to feel at home and welcome, and make the most of their time here.

Data Analysis Highlights: April 2023
Here are the latest data insights from Hillsboro community members gathered by Digital Content & Strategy Analyst Colin Miletich:
- The latest affordable housing article received more than 1,200 visits.
- Engage Hillsboro continues to draw traffic and engagement: 900+ votes for Pix in the Park movies were tallied in April, with hundreds more cast in May.

Water
Algae Bloom Season Begins
May 1 marked the beginning of the 2023 Cyanotoxin Regulatory Season for the Joint Water Commission.
Staff will maintain an extensive water sampling schedule over the next six months to continuously assess the risk of algae blooms and will work with Washington County Parks to respond if needed.
