Safe Rest Pods Open: More Than a Place to Sleep
The Safe Rest Pods on SW 17th Avenue opened on October 21 to provide 30 to 40 community members experiencing homelessness a secure place to sleep, peer support, and wrap-around services.
- Guests receive support surrounding mental health, employment, and housing navigation in a community of staff and peers.
- Move-in is on a rolling basis as pod construction continues.
- The site will operate until March 2023.
The temporary shelter site is a partnership between the City of Hillsboro, Washington County, and OpenDoor Housing Works.

Community Services Grants Benefit Local Partners
A total of 36 social service agencies that assist in improving the mental or physical condition of Hillsboro residents submitted applications for the City's Community Services Grant Program.
The City will award $200,000 to support the work of selected agencies in fiscal year 2022-23. Awardees will be announced November 16, 2022.

Donated Truck Supports Outdoor Cleanup
The City of Hillsboro Facilities Team donated a surplus pickup truck to OpenDoor Housing Works, one of three organizations selected to help with our Outdoor Cleanup through Supportive Employment Project.
The project is keeping Hillsboro beautiful and creating job opportunities for people with lived experiences of homelessness.

Architect Selected for Year-Round Shelter Project
The City of Hillsboro has selected Carleton Hart Architecture to plan and design a future Year-Round Shelter for the SW 17th Avenue property.
The firm brings vast shelter design experience, a community-based approach, and core values that reflect their passion and care for people experiencing houselessness.
