What is Student Life?
The Social Side Of College
College isn’t just about academics—although doing well in class is important. How you spend your time outside of class can significantly impact your success, enjoyment, and even career prospects. Student Life, also known as Student Affairs or Campus Life, encompasses the student-focused extracurricular activities offered by a college. These activities can include:
- Sports teams (varsity level, club level, or rec-league/intramural)
- Student government
- Music and dance ensembles (acapella, marching band, cultural groups, etc.)
- Housing communities
- Academic clubs (honor societies, major-specific clubs, per-professional groups)
- Religious communities
- Volunteer Opportunities
- And more
Most colleges including community colleges, public 4-year institutions, and private 4-year institutions will have offer some type of Student Life programming as well as programming that is geared towards commuter students and students living on campus.
