Thriving on Campus
This week's Summer Bridge Newsletter is packed with information to help you make the most out of your college experience. Inside, you'll find articles on time management, setting goals, connecting with tutoring resources, and tips for seeking assistance when needed. Our goal is to equip you with these tools so that you not only arrive on campus but thrive on campus.
Importance of Helpful Habits
Set Yourself Up for Success
College can be a major adjustment, but developing certain habits can help ease the transition and enhance your success. One crucial habit is mastering time management. From attending classes and studying to participating in clubs and events, there's a lot to balance that’s why organizing and sticking to a schedule can be really helpful. Outlining your daily or weekly schedule keeps you on track and helps visualize how you're utilizing your time.
Setting goals is another effective strategy to stay motivated and can reinforce your time management efforts. For instance, if you allocate study time in your schedule, set a goal to complete one assignment during each study session. For those prone to procrastination, effective time management and goal setting can be powerful tools to combat this tendency. Additionally, consider rewarding yourself when you achieve your goals—for example, spending 20 minutes playing your favorite game after completing an assignment can boost your motivation.
Lastly, it's important to remind yourself of the satisfaction that comes with completing your tasks and to keep your long-term goals in mind—the reasons ("why") you chose to attend college in the first place. These strategies can help you maintain focus and achieve success throughout your college journey.

Academic Support
Improving Academic Performance
Before classes begin, it’s good to identify what support resources are available to further support your academic success. Most campuses have tutors, many of which are fellow students, who can be incredibly helpful when breaking down complex equations, talking through research ideas/topics, providing study tips, and much more. Some classes also have teaching assistants, usually graduate students, who can be a great source of support. Additionally, professors have Office Hours, time specifically set aside to meet with students for questions and guidance. If you’re unsure of what resources your school has, search “academic support” on their website to learn more.

How to Ask for Help
How: If you don’t know who to ask, try searching the school’s website, and if you can’t seem to find the “right” person, ask whoever you think is closest to your topic. For example, if you’re wondering what you should bring to campus when you move, you could reach out to anyone in either the Student Life or Residence Life Departments.
