Host an AmeriCorps Member with Silvernest
Every year, dedicated AmeriCorps members commit themselves to serving communities in Oregon, often relying on a modest living stipend. Unfortunately, 60% of AmeriCorps programs in Oregon report that their members face challenges in finding safe and affordable housing. This barrier has discouraged potential AmeriCorps members from serving.
In response, America’s Service Commissions, representing the nation's 52 state service commissions, including OregonServes, partnered with Silvernest. This platform connects AmeriCorps members in Oregon with affordable housing options, facilitating meaningful connections between members and hosts who offer home spaces at reduced rates. If you have available space, consider supporting a member by listing your space for free on Silvernest. For more information, check out our frequently asked questions page.

Make a Difference in Disasters
As a partner in Oregon's Emergency Support Function for Volunteers and Donations, OregonServes proudly introduces Oregon Volunteers in Disaster (ORVID). ORVID matches volunteers with organizations during disasters, offering a cost-free, seamless experience for both volunteers and organizations. It's an ideal tool for emergency managers and various disaster-focused organizations, including government agencies, non-profits, and tribal organizations. Volunteers, act now! Explore and sign up for ORVID or watch our volunteer video. For organizations interested in ORVID, watch this video, or learn how to sign up for an account here.

The Great ShakeOut
Tomorrow is International ShakeOut Day! On October 19, we invite you to join the global earthquake preparedness movement and take part in life-saving drills while at work, school, or home. How it works: at 10:19 am local time, people are encouraged to drop, find cover, and hold on. Three steps to keep you safe during an earthquake. In Oregon alone, over 490,000 participants (and counting) have pledged to participate in the great ShakeOut this year. Check out the Oregon ShakeOut page for more information, including earthquake drill modifications for those with limited mobility and how to protect yourself in various scenarios.
