The Oregon Health Authority has adopted a new State Health Improvement Plan (SHIP) for 2025-2029 that includes a strategy to “Destigmatize psilocybin as a culturally responsive option for healing and wellness”.
The SHIP is a 5-year plan for improving the health of all people, of all ages, in all places in Oregon. It recognizes the diverse experiences of our population and strives to have inclusive strategies that benefit everyone. The plan has over 60 strategies that are organized under 4 priority areas:
- Healthy Environments
- Individual, family, and community well-being
- Health promotion and disease prevention
- Emergency preparedness and response
The strategy to “Destigmatize psilocybin as a culturally responsive option for healing and wellness” supports the SHIP priority “Individual, family, and community well-being”. This is a significant movement forward for regulated psilocybin services in Oregon, which has established a new professional healthcare workforce in Oregon.
Licensed facilitators represent diverse lived and professional experiences and support Individual, Family, and Community well-being by providing culturally responsive services to communities in Oregon. Licensed facilitators are the key to integrating psilocybin services into the health and behavioral health system in Oregon, improving the health of Oregonians, and supporting public health goals to eliminate health inequities.
The Oregon Psilocybin Services section is excited to work with the Public Health Division’s SHIP team to help tell the story of how this strategy contributes to achieving long-term public health goals. Together we will provide annual review and report on progress being made.
