Oregon's SUD 1115 waiver allows for expanded access to substance use disorder treatment and services through Medicaid, aiming to:
- Improve health outcomes,
- Increase treatment engagement, and
- Reduce emergency and inpatient visits.
The current demonstration focuses on two key areas:
-
Community integration: Housing and employment support for individuals with SUD as they transition from residential treatment facilities back into the community.
-
Institution for Mental Diseases exclusion: Allows Oregon to receive federal matching funds for services provided in residential facilities with more than 16 beds. These funds help expand access to necessary care.
Together, these efforts support more comprehensive care for individuals with SUD.
