In January, AllCare Health released a video about Oregon Health Plan (OHP) health-related social needs (HRSN) housing benefits. AllCare Health is a coordinated care organization (CCO) that provides health care to OHP members in southern Oregon.
The video tells the story of how Xavier Cordero became ill and unexpectedly disabled. Unable to work, his debts mounted up, including unpaid rent. Working with an AllCare care coordinator to manage his illness, Cordero learned about OHP’s HRSN rent payment benefit. He qualified and used it to get caught up on back rent payments. “Without this, I’m quite sure I would have been homeless,” said Cordero. “This program gave me a new lease on life.”
The video describes how Cordero got seven months of rental assistance. The HRSN housing benefit only covers six months. That means the additional month’s rent payment came from a different funding source. CCOs can use flexible services funds to help members with health-related social needs, including rent payments.
Watch the video on YouTube for more on this inspiring story. Visit the HRSN housing web page to learn about these OHP benefits.

Oregon Health Plan (OHP) offers pre-recorded training modules for service providers interested in offering HRSN benefits to OHP open card (fee-for-service) members.
Service providers working with coordinated care organizations (CCOs) can also benefit from the trainings. But they need to contact CCOs directly to learn the specifics about working with them.
Slides and recordings are available on the HRSN provider training webpage.
