Downstream Suicide Prevention: Implementing Best Practices in Culturally Responsive Suicide Clinical Care
Please join Dr. Joyce Chu and Dr. Christopher Weaver in this free 2-hour webinar geared towards policy makers, clinics, and managers of therapy programs on Thursday January 30th 9 AM – 11 AM.
Description: In order to effectively prevent suicide for our diverse communities, there is a need to pair upstream community-level efforts with downstream focus on improving clinical systems of care through the use of best practices. Goals of this culturally-infused downstream work are to identify existing organizational barriers around suicide risk management and offer solutions that are implementable and sustainable for diverse clients and consumers. Common gaps and barriers in culturally responsive suicide care will be discussed, alongside examples of solutions through existing organizational projects. Aims are to provide guidance for efforts that fortify culturally-infused downstream clinical services – as critical components of a comprehensive suicide prevention strategic plan.

New Sanctuary Promise Community Toolkit and Outreach Materials
In December, the Oregon Attorney General rolled out a new Sanctuary Promise Community Toolkit in English and Spanish to help Oregonians familiarize themselves with the state’s long-standing sanctuary laws, the rights those laws protect, and the safety precautions to take to prepare for the possibility of increased federal immigration activity in our state.
Developed by Oregon’s Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Unit (CRU), the community toolkit is a free, online resource for those seeking to understand Oregon’s sanctuary laws and help ensure that our communities are safe for all. Outreach materials including brochures, flyers, outreach cards, radio spots, posters, social media posts, and public service announcements (PSAs) are available in English, Spanish, and five additional indigenous languages, for community members to understand, report, and combat violations of Oregon’s Sanctuary Promise Laws. The Sanctuary Promise print material can be viewed, downloaded, and printed. To request printed material email the Civil Rights Unit.
