Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a critical part of our modern cyber security defense. It is a security system requiring more than one method of authentication to verify the user's identity to log into services or applications. MFA will help protect agency data by creating a layered defense, making it more difficult for an unauthorized person to access a computer, network or database. All ODHS|OHA employees, providers, and partners are now required to use MFA when accessing state systems.
Question: I am a new MOTS user and haven’t configured MFA. What do I do?
Answer: You have come to the right place! We have all the info you need to get you MFA enabled and ready to roll!
1. Before beginning MFA and accessing MOTS, make sure you have the following handy:
-
UPN (User Principal Name): This was sent to you in the email along with your P# and looks something like first.last@odhsoha.oregon.gov.
-
P#: This is your Partner Number and your username in MOTS, it looks something like P1234567
- If you have not received your P# or UPN, please reach out to MOTS Support.
-
Temporary Access Password (TAP): This was sent to you in the email from the OIS Service Desk. *Remember, the TAP expires 3 days after it's issued.
- If your TAP has expired, contact the OIS Service Desk for a 1-day bypass to gain temporary access to the system at 503-945-5623, option 1.
2. Next, you have two MFA configuration options to choose from:
-
Will you use a smartphone with the Microsoft Authenticator App?
Please note that no data will be transferred to your phone, this is purely used to verify your identity.
-
Will you use a YubiKey?
A YubiKey is a physical hardware token that is plugged in to a USB port. Our tech team recommends purchasing a Series 5 YubiKey online or in store. You will also need to download the Yubico Software onto the computer you will be using for MOTS. You may need to reach out to your facility’s IT Team for software support.
3. Now that you have system access and have selected your authentication method, you can proceed with setting up MFA. Detailed instructions for your chosen method are provided below:
If you encounter any issues, please don't hesitate to call Service Desk at 503-945-5623, option 1
