Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace reports health coverage gains in report
(Salem) – The Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace is pleased to announce the release of its annual report (orhim.info/2023report), showcasing progress in health coverage gains across the state. The report, released today, reveals an increase in the number of Oregonians who have gained access to quality private health insurance through the Marketplace, highlighting the success of efforts to improve equitable access to health coverage for residents across the state.
More than 145,500 Oregonians enrolled for the 2024 plan year with nearly 80 percent of enrollees applying for and receiving financial assistance.
- Oregonians receiving financial assistance are getting an average of $524 in premium tax credits per month to help pay the monthly cost for health coverage, also called the monthly premium.
- The average bottom-line monthly premium for Oregonians is $164 after premium tax credits are applied.
- Over 15 percent of Oregonians enrolled through the Marketplace have a monthly premium of less than $10 per month after premium tax credits are applied.
According to the report, the Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace has seen a rise in enrollment numbers, with more than 145,500 individuals now benefiting from comprehensive health coverage through the Marketplace.
“This achievement underscores the Marketplace's commitment to ensuring that every Oregonian has access to the coverage they need to lead healthy and fulfilling lives,” says Chiqui Flowers, Marketplace director.
Throughout the Medicaid eligibility redetermination process, which began in April 2023, the Marketplace has helped people no longer eligible for Oregon Health Plan (OHP) find a private health plan that meets their needs.
“I have firsthand observed how the unavailability of affordable, high-quality coverage can compromise a person’s health and well-being. It’s to prevent this situation that OHA is so committed to helping all Oregonians find the plan that best meets their needs and their budget,” said Oregon Health Authority (OHA) director Dr. Sejal Hathi.
People leaving OHP or who have experienced other life changes like job changes, moving, marriage or other family changes may qualify to shop for coverage in a special enrollment period. Oregonians leaving OHP should take action before their OHP benefits end to avoid a gap in coverage, and have until Nov. 30, 2024 to enroll.
