Questions are answered by experts at OHA and other state agencies or community partners.
Q: How can I find out if I’m eligible for a free radon test kit? – Mark, Canby
A: Eligibility for a free radon test kit through OHA is based on your ZIP code. Open this document and look for your ZIP code, then look for the “Risk for Elevated Radon” column.
You qualify for a free radon test kit if:
• The risk level includes asterisks (ie: *Low* or *Moderate*). • The risk level is “Not assigned.” • Your ZIP code is not listed but is in Oregon.
If you qualify, email radon.program@dhsoha.state.or.us and include your name, home address and mailing address. Learn more here.
If you do not qualify for a free kit based on your ZIP code, you may qualify based on your income. OHA is partnered with Nonprofit Home Inspections to offer free radon tests to those with low-moderate income levels. To see if you qualify, and to order, visit here.
We recommend all homes be tested for radon regardless of the risk level associated with the home’s ZIP code.
Q: What are the possible side effects from the RSV vaccination? – Sue, Crooked River Ranch
A: According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “The most common side effects after RSV vaccination reported from clinical trials included pain, redness, and swelling where the shot is given, fatigue, fever, headache, nausea, diarrhea, and muscle or joint pain. These side effects were usually mild.” Read the CDC’s fact sheet about RSV vaccines here.
A few weeks ago we answered a reader question about the risk of developing the neurological condition Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), which CDC reports has occurred rarely after receiving the RSV vaccine. Read our answer here.
