Happy New Year! January is a great time for turning over new leaves and budding new beginnings. The daylight hours are getting longer, and we are looking forward to the year ahead and all the ways we can support the wonderful work being done in urban and community forestry throughout Oregon.  Applications are in Final Review!
A big thank you to all the Tree City USA, Tree Campus Higher Education, and Tree Line USA communities that applied for recognition for 2024! Your applications are in the final review process from the Arbor Day Foundation, congratulations! Did you know that you can download and check the status of your application by logging in to the online application portal? Once you are approved you should see that status change in your online account. Additionally, you will receive an email from The Arbor Day Foundation once approved. Final recognition announcements from ODF UCF will be made in time for Arbor Month in April.

 Oregon Community Trees is Now Accepting Award Nominations
Since 1994 Oregon Community Trees (OCT) and the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) have recognized individuals, communities, and organizations in the state who demonstrate outstanding accomplishments and leadership in urban and community forestry. The goal of the awards program is two-fold: to celebrate Oregonians who understand that healthy urban forests foster thriving communities and to encourage support from their community leaders.
Award Categories

The Individual Award is given to a person who has made significant contributions to urban forestry in Oregon. This may be work in tree planting and care, engaging citizens in community forestry, raising awareness about urban trees, and protecting Oregon’s urban forests.

The Organization Award is given to a business, non-profit, school or municipality actively promoting healthy urban and community forests in Oregon through education, awareness, advocacy and investment in our urban forests.

Oregon Tree Health Threats Bulletin
The Oregon Department of Forestry has put together a newsletter specifically for updates and best management practices around the response to the presence of the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) and other forest threats.
